CHURCHVILLE — The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that two individuals have been apprehended in connection with a double shooting incident that occurred at a party on Saturday night in Churchville. The incident resulted in two teenage girls sustaining gunshot wounds.

The sheriff’s office was alerted to the shooting at approximately 10:35 p.m. on Saturday, near the intersection of Buffalo Gap Highway and Churchville Avenue.

Upon arriving at the scene, deputies discovered two female victims, aged 17 and 19, with gunshot injuries. The Churchville Rescue Squad promptly transported both victims to Augusta Health in Fishersville, where they were initially listed in critical condition. However, a subsequent update from the sheriff’s office indicated that their conditions had since stabilized.

Both victims had sustained gunshot wounds to their legs, and evidence was collected at the scene to aid in the investigation. The suspects involved in the shooting were identified as Isaiah J. Cassell, 21, from Mount Solon, and Matthew T. Cassell, 20, from West Augusta. Sheriff Donald Smith revealed that the suspects are cousins and were last seen fleeing the area in a black Ford Mustang.

Isaiah Cassell has been charged with multiple offenses, including three counts of felony use of a firearm in a threatening manner during the commission of aggravated malicious wounding, two counts of aggravated malicious wounding, and one count of attempted malicious wounding. On the other hand, Matthew Cassell faces charges of violating conditions of bond, being an accessory before the use of a firearm in a felony, and being an accessory before an aggravated wounding.

Following the arrests, Isaiah Cassell was taken into custody in the 1100 block of Mount Solon Road, while Matthew Cassell was apprehended in the 600 block of Stribling Springs Road. Both suspects are currently being held without bond at Middle River Regional Jail in Verona.
