The shocking incident took place in the early hours of June 17 at Miami’s Garden Restaurant and Lounge, situated near West 71st Street and I-465 in Miami. The incident involved a violent altercation that resulted in the stabbing of nine individuals. The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Estinfil Filsmagre, has been charged with multiple offenses, including attempted murder, aggravated battery, and three counts of battery.
Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears stated that the altercation occurred late at night, with alcohol consumption playing a role in escalating the situation. Filsmagre, who was among those injured in the incident, is currently in critical condition.
Details of the incident
According to eyewitness accounts and surveillance footage from Miami’s Garden, the altercation began outside the establishment between two groups of individuals. The situation quickly escalated, leading to a physical fight. Filsmagre was seen reaching into his pocket and brandishing a knife, which he used to stab at least one individual from behind.
Following the stabbing, Filsmagre attempted to flee the scene but was confronted by an off-duty female security guard. In a desperate attempt to escape, Filsmagre stabbed the security guard before being subdued by a group of men who physically assaulted him, rendering him unconscious.
The security guard sustained a serious injury, with the knife puncturing the sac around her heart. Filsmagre was subsequently taken to a hospital in critical condition for medical treatment.
Restaurant closure
Following the incident, the Pike Township Fire Department issued a closure order for Miami’s Garden due to code violations unrelated to the stabbing incident. The violations included operating without an entertainment permit and failing to obtain a construction permit. The restaurant will remain closed until these code violations are rectified.
Previous incidents at Miami’s Garden
Interestingly, this is not the first time law enforcement has been called to Miami’s Garden Lounge and Restaurant. Earlier incidents include a fight on New Year’s Day, a gunshot wound incident in March, and another fight in late May. Excise Police have also conducted investigations at the establishment, highlighting a pattern of recurring incidents at Miami’s Garden.
