CLARION CO., Pa. (EYT) — A 20-year-old man from Oil City is set to appear in court on Wednesday to face charges related to an alleged scam involving a Lucinda woman on Facebook Marketplace.

Court records show that Devyn James Clay Goff, of Oil City, is due to attend a criminal conference at 8:50 a.m. on Wednesday, June 26, with District Attorney Drew Welsh. The charges against Goff were held for court during a preliminary hearing on May 7.

Charge Details

Goff is facing a charge of Theft by Deception — False Impression, classified as a Misdemeanor 2. He is currently out on his own recognizance.

Case Background

According to a criminal complaint filed on April 11, a Lucinda woman reported to PSP Clarion that she had attempted to purchase an iPhone on Facebook Marketplace on March 3. The victim provided her address to a person identified as Devyn Goff, who claimed he would ship the phone to her. Goff asked for payment through CashApp, to which the victim agreed and sent $160 to Goff’s account.

However, the victim never received the phone and did not hear from Goff after sending the money. A search warrant on Goff’s CashApp account revealed his verified identity, including his date of birth and social security number. The account also showed a transaction for $160 on March 3.

Legal Proceedings

Goff was arraigned on April 24 in front of Judge Timothy Schill. The criminal conference on June 26 will further address the charges against him related to the alleged scam on Facebook Marketplace.
