HOUSTON: Tragedy struck in the US state of Texas as a 32-year-old Indian man, Dasari Gopikrishna, fell victim to a fatal shooting during a robbery at a convenience shop. Originally hailing from the Bapatla district in Andhra Pradesh, Gopikrishna had only been residing in the United States for a mere eight months before the unfortunate incident took place.
The harrowing incident unfolded at a gas station convenience store in Pleasant Grove, Dallas on June 21. Gopikrishna sustained severe injuries during the robbery and was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital. Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, he tragically passed away on Sunday morning while receiving treatment.
Consul General D C Manjunath, who happened to be in Dallas for a Yoga Day event on the same day, clarified that the incident was not linked to a shooting in Arkansas as initially reported by certain sources.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Indian national Gopi Krishna Dasari in a robbery shooting incident at Pleasant Grove, Dallas, TX. Our hearts go out to his grieving family during this difficult time,” expressed Manjunath in a heartfelt condolence message.
The Consulate, in collaboration with Indian associations, is diligently working towards providing all necessary assistance to facilitate the repatriation of Gopikrishna’s remains to India. This includes navigating through local formalities such as the completion of an autopsy and the issuance of death certificates.
The devastating event has left a profound impact on the Indian community in Dallas and the surrounding areas. Gopikrishna leaves behind his wife and son, further deepening the sense of loss felt by his loved ones and acquaintances.
