A 24-year-old man was taken into custody on Sunday afternoon near Cottage Grove, Oregon, after he allegedly threatened to kill another individual and himself with a handgun. The Lane County Sheriff’s office responded to the incident just before 5 p.m. on June 23 in the area of Row River Road and Rat Creek.
Authorities received multiple reports of a man, later identified as Chance Dean Dixon, brandishing a handgun and making threats of violence. Some callers also claimed to have heard gunshots in the vicinity. Deputies swiftly arrived at the scene and were able to locate a victim and witnesses. Additionally, they ensured the safety of individuals on the nearby bike path.
With the assistance of a drone and K9 unit, law enforcement officers were able to locate Dixon, who had concealed himself in dense undergrowth. Despite his resistance, Dixon was eventually subdued by the deployment of a Taser. A subsequent search by K9 Hektor uncovered a handgun and other incriminating evidence nearby.
Dixon was subsequently arrested and taken to the Lane County Jail, where he is facing charges that include menacing, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon, and violation of a restraining order. As of June 24, 2024, he remains in custody pending further legal proceedings.
