A woman named Aisha Abubakar has been apprehended in Katsina State after authorities discovered a stash of bullets in her possession aboard a state government-owned mass transit bus over the weekend. The incident has raised concerns about the proliferation of arms and ammunition in the region.
In a video that has been circulating online, Aisha confessed that she was driven by hunger to accept the illegal task of serving as a courier, possibly for criminal elements such as bandits operating in the area. This revelation has shocked many in the community who knew Aisha as a law-abiding citizen.
During her interrogation, Aisha, speaking in the Hausa language, vehemently denied any prior involvement in such activities, claiming that desperation for food led her to make a grave mistake. “I have never been involved in anything like this before,” she pleaded, visibly distressed by the situation. She further stated, “Hunger pushed me into this unfortunate situation.”
The suspect went on to explain that a stranger had entrusted her with the ammunition, absolving herself of any knowledge about the man’s identity or whereabouts. “I have no idea who he is,” she maintained. “He gave me the bullets, but I don’t know his name or where he lives.”
When asked about the intended destination of the bullets, Aisha revealed that she was instructed to drop them “at the stream along Hanyin Dantumaki in Katsina State” for someone else to collect the illicit package. This revelation has raised concerns about the potential involvement of other individuals in the illegal arms trade.
As of the time of this report, the Katsina State Police Command has not issued a formal statement regarding the arrest and the discovery of the ammunition.
