Travis Posey : “11 Shot, 3 Dead: Authorities Confirm Tragic Incident”

Three individuals tragically lost their lives in a mass shooting at a grocery store in Fordyce, Arkansas. The incident took place in the small city of Fordyce, located about 65 miles south of Little Rock. According to Department of Public Safety Director Col. Mike Hagar, the suspected gunman opened fire, resulting in the deaths of three people. Additionally, two responding officers sustained injuries during the incident. Fortunately, the injuries to both the officers and the suspect are not believed to be life-threatening, although civilian injuries range from non-life threatening to extremely critical. Hagar expressed deep sorrow over the shooting, describing it as heart-breaking.

Law Enforcement Response

Shortly after 11:30 a.m. on Friday, multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Arkansas State Police (ASP) and the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, arrived at the scene near the Mad Butcher grocery store on West 4th Street in Fordyce.

Law enforcement officials identified the suspect in the shooting as 44-year-old Travis Eugene Posey from New Edinburg, a community located 10 miles southeast of Fordyce. Following an exchange of gunfire with officers, Posey was apprehended and taken into custody. State Police reported that Posey received medical treatment for his injuries before being transferred to the Ouachita County Detention Center.

Victims Identified

One of the victims of the shooting was identified as 23-year-old Callie Weems, a nurse at the Dallas County Medical Center Family Clinic who leaves behind a 10-month-old daughter.

The second victim was identified as 63-year-old Shirley Kay Taylor from Fordyce. Photos provided by her family depicted her as a proud grandmother.

Third Victim

The Benton Funeral Home released an obituary for the third victim, 50-year-old Roy Burton Sturgis from Kingsland, located 12 miles northeast of Fordyce.
