Accident – Death – Obituary News : Arkansas state police have confirmed that a tragic incident took place on Saturday evening, resulting in the death of one individual. The shooting incident occurred at around 11.30am local time on Friday at the Mad Butcher grocery shop in Fordyce, located approximately 65 miles south of the state capital, Little Rock.
The authorities have reported that a total of 11 civilians, two law enforcement officers, and the suspect were affected by the gunfire. Among the victims, four civilians have tragically lost their lives in the incident. They have been identified as Shirley Taylor, 62, Callie Weems, 23, Roy Sturgis, 50, and Ellen Shrum, 81. Additionally, the injured individuals, ranging in age from 20 to 65, have been hospitalized, with four individuals still receiving treatment. One woman remains in critical condition.
Among the injured were Fordyce police officer James Johnson, 31, who has since been discharged from the hospital, and Stuttgart police officer John Hudson, 24, who sustained minor injuries. The suspect involved in the shooting has been identified as Travis Eugene Posey, 44, from New Edinburg. He will face four counts of capital murder charges.
According to police reports, Posey was treated for non-life-threatening injuries following an exchange of gunfire with law enforcement officers. He was subsequently released into police custody and taken to the Ouachita County Detention Centre.
Roderick Rogers, a member of the city council, recounted the chaos that ensued following the shooting. He mentioned that employees at his nearby restaurant alerted him to the incident, prompting him to contact the sheriff. Upon arrival at the scene, Rogers witnessed people scrambling for cover in all directions, with some individuals even rushing to the nearby hospital for safety.
Various videos shared on social media captured the harrowing moments, with one clip showing a person lying in the car park. Additionally, images from reporters on-site revealed numerous bullet holes in the shop’s windows and scattered shell casings in the surrounding area.
