Tragic Shooting Incident in Arkansas Leaves Four Dead and Several Injured
Arkansas state police have confirmed that a devastating shooting incident took place on Saturday evening, resulting in the death of one individual and injuries to 11 civilians, two law enforcement officers, and the suspect involved. The incident occurred at around 11.30am local time on Friday at the Mad Butcher grocery shop in Fordyce, located approximately 65 miles south of the state capital, Little Rock.
The victims of this senseless act of violence have been identified as Shirley Taylor, 62, Callie Weems, 23, Roy Sturgis, 50, and Ellen Shrum, 81, all of whom were civilians. The injured individuals, ranging in age from 20 to 65, are currently receiving medical treatment, with four of them still in hospital, including a woman in critical condition.
Among the injured were Fordyce police officer James Johnson, 31, who has since been released from hospital, and Stuttgart police officer John Hudson, 24, whose injuries were reported to be minor.
The suspect responsible for this horrific incident has been identified as Travis Eugene Posey, 44, of New Edinburg. Arkansas state police have stated that Posey will face four counts of capital murder. Following an exchange of gunfire with law enforcement, Posey received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries before being taken into police custody and transferred to the Ouachita County Detention Centre.
Roderick Rogers, a member of the city council, recounted the chaos that ensued following the shooting. Employees at his nearby restaurant alerted him to the situation, prompting him to contact the sheriff. Upon arrival at the scene, Rogers witnessed people fleeing in every direction, with some even running to the nearby hospital for safety.
Social media footage captured during the incident depicted the harrowing scene, showing at least one individual lying in the car park and multiple gunshots echoing through the air. Reporters on-site documented the aftermath, revealing bullet holes riddling the shop’s windows and spent shell casings scattered across the car park.
