Suraj Revanna, a member of the JD(S) party and brother of Prajwal Revanna, has been arrested following allegations of sexual assault by a party worker. The grandson of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, Suraj was charged after a 27-year-old man accused him of sodomising him at his farmhouse in Ghannikada, Holenarasipura Taluk.
Details of the Allegations
The victim, identified as Chethan K S, claimed that Suraj invited him to his farmhouse on the evening of June 16. Upon his arrival, Suraj allegedly forced himself on Chethan, leading to the filing of charges under IPC sections 377 (unnatural sex) and 506 (criminal intimidation).
After the incident, Chethan stated that Suraj promised to assist him in his political growth within the district. However, when Chethan reached out to Suraj about the assault, the MLC reassured him that everything would be resolved.
Arrest and Denial of Charges
Following the complaint, Suraj was summoned to the Cyber Economic and Narcotics Crime (CEN) police station in Hassan and taken into custody after a preliminary investigation. Despite the allegations, Suraj maintains his innocence, claiming that Chethan fabricated the accusations in an attempt to extort money from him.
Additionally, Suraj’s aide Shivakumar lodged a complaint against Chethan, alleging that he was attempting to extort Rs 5 crore from the MLC. According to Shivakumar, Chethan initially demanded the sum in exchange for not filing a false sexual assault case, which was later reduced to Rs 2 crore.
Family Background
Suraj Revanna is the son of Holenarasipura MLA H D Revanna and the elder brother of former Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, who is currently in judicial custody for alleged sexual assaults on multiple women. Their parents, H D Revanna and Bhavani, are currently out on bail after being accused of kidnapping and concealing a victim of Prajwal’s alleged assaults.
