The shooting incident, which occurred at around 11.30am local time on Friday, took place at the Mad Butcher grocery shop in Fordyce, located approximately 65 miles south of the state capital, Little Rock.
According to authorities, a total of 11 civilians, two law enforcement officers, and the suspect were struck by gunfire during the incident. The victims have been identified as Shirley Taylor, 62, Callie Weems, 23, Roy Sturgis, 50, and Ellen Shrum, 81, all of whom were civilians. The injured individuals, ranging in age from 20 to 65, include four individuals who remain hospitalized, with one woman reported to be in critical condition.
Among the injured are Fordyce police officer James Johnson, 31, who has since been released from the hospital, and Stuttgart police officer John Hudson, 24, whose injuries were described as minor. The suspect in the shooting has been identified as Travis Eugene Posey, 44, of New Edinburg, and is set to face four counts of capital murder.
Following the exchange of gunfire with law enforcement, Posey was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and subsequently taken into police custody. He has been transferred to the Ouachita County Detention Centre to await further legal proceedings. Roderick Rogers, a member of the city council, recounted the chaos that ensued following the shooting, with individuals scrambling for safety and seeking refuge in nearby establishments.

Images from the scene showed the aftermath of the shooting, with bullet holes visible in the shop’s windows and spent shell casings littering the car park.
