Accident – Death – Obituary News : Police have confirmed that a fourth victim has tragically passed away following a horrific shooting incident at a local shop in the United States. The gunman opened fire, injuring nine others and causing chaos as panicked bystanders sought refuge from the gunfire.
Arkansas state police revealed that the tragic death occurred on Saturday evening, with a total of “11 civilians, two law enforcement officers and the suspect” being struck by gunfire during the ordeal. The shooting occurred at approximately 11.30am local time on Friday at the Mad Butcher grocery shop in Fordyce, a town located approximately 65 miles south of the state capital, Little Rock.
The victims have been identified as Shirley Taylor, 62, Callie Weems, 23, Roy Sturgis, 50, and Ellen Shrum, 81, all of whom were civilians. The injured individuals, ranging in age from 20 to 65, are currently receiving medical treatment, with four individuals remaining hospitalised, including a woman in critical condition.
In addition to the civilians affected, Fordyce police officer James Johnson, 31, was released from hospital on Saturday evening, while Stuttgart police officer John Hudson, 24, sustained minor injuries during the incident.
The suspect, identified as Travis Eugene Posey, 44, of New Edinburg, will face four counts of capital murder. Following an exchange of gunfire with law enforcement, Posey was treated for non-life-threatening injuries before being taken into police custody and subsequently transferred to the Ouachita County Detention Centre.
Roderick Rogers, a city council member, recounted the chaotic scene as employees at his nearby restaurant alerted him to the shooting. Upon arrival, he witnessed individuals fleeing in all directions, with some even seeking safety at a nearby hospital.
Social media footage captured the distressing events, showcasing at least one individual lying in a car park and the sound of multiple gunshots echoing through the area. Reporters on-site documented the aftermath, highlighting numerous bullet holes in the shop’s windows and discarded shell casings scattered throughout the car park.
