A young woman from Linwood has been identified as the victim of a fatal accident that occurred on the Coastal Highway near Milton, Delaware. Shayla Montgomery, aged 18, lost her life in the tragic incident that took place in the early hours of Friday, as confirmed by the Delaware State Police.
The incident involved a 34-year-old woman from Dover, Delaware, who was driving a Nissan Altima in the right lane heading north of Oyster Rocks Road just after midnight. At the same time, a Dodge Charger was parked on the shoulder of the highway northbound, north of Oyster Rocks Road. It was revealed during the preliminary investigation that a passenger of the Charger had exited the vehicle to search for her cellphone.
Unfortunately, as the passenger was searching for her phone and stepped onto the roadway, she was struck by the Nissan Altima. The collision resulted in the tragic death of Shayla Montgomery.
The Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit is currently conducting an investigation into the incident. They are urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash to come forward and provide any information that could assist in the investigation. Witnesses can contact Senior Cpl. J. Following the accident, the Coastal Highway had to be closed for approximately four hours to allow for the thorough investigation and clearing of the scene.
