WEST HAVEN, Conn. — Two young children are currently recovering in a Connecticut Intensive Care Unit after a harrowing incident at a West Haven beach in the early hours of Saturday morning. According to investigators, their father was stopped by police officers while allegedly attempting to drown them, as reported by ABC News.

The chilling incident unfolded when a West Haven Police Department patrol officer noticed an SUV parked at Dawson Avenue Beach around 2:30 a.m. Upon closer inspection, the officer heard screams coming from the water. It was then that the officer discovered Romney Desronvil, 41, in the water with his two children.

According to the police statement, as the officer approached, Desronvil tried to keep the officers at bay while continuing to move away from the shore with the children. The authorities quickly realised the gravity of the situation, with Desronvil allegedly attempting to drown his own children.

Additional police officers and members of the fire department sprang into action, entering the water to rescue the children who were under the age of 3. They managed to bring the children back to shore, where life-saving measures were administered before they were rushed to the hospital.

West Haven Mayor Dorinda Borer later updated reporters on the children’s condition, stating that while they were showing signs of improvement, they remained in critical condition. She praised the heroic actions of Officers Williamson and Miller for saving the children’s lives.

Desronvil, a resident of Queens, New York, was taken into custody and charged with two counts each of attempted manslaughter and risk of injury. The investigation is ongoing, and further charges may be brought against him.
