In a tragic turn of events, a young man was found dead on Tucson’s southside, leading to the arrest of a suspect in connection with the crime.

On a Friday afternoon, around 2:15pm, law enforcement officers rushed to the area of S. 13th Ave. and W. Drexel Rd. following reports of an aggravated assault.

Upon reaching the scene, officers were met with a grim sight – a victim with visible signs of trauma, who was later pronounced dead on the spot. The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Ray Bernal Jr.

After conducting interviews and collecting evidence at the scene, detectives pieced together the events that led to Bernal’s untimely demise. It was revealed that Bernal had engaged in a physical altercation with another individual before being fatally shot.

The Tucson Police Department (TPD) disclosed that through their investigative efforts, they were able to identify the suspect as 35-year-old Daniel Gonzales.

A search warrant was swiftly obtained for Gonzales’ residence, and with the assistance of the Tucson Police Department SWAT Team, he was successfully apprehended.

TPD confirmed that Gonzales is now in custody and has been booked into Pima County Jail on charges of First-Degree Murder and Kidnapping. His bail has been set at a staggering $1,000,000.
