The authorities have apprehended a young boy and are actively searching for his partner in crime after they allegedly robbed a man of his motorbike, money, and mobile phone near Thudiyalur in Coimbatore. The incident took place after the victim was lured through a dating application.
Identification of the accused
The arrested suspect is a 17-year-old lad from Musiri in Tiruchi district, who is currently studying at an ITI located at GN Mills. The minor was taken into custody following a report filed by R. Manikandan, a 25-year-old individual from Sikkadu in Kallakurichi district.
Details of the incident
According to the police, Manikandan is employed at a motor pump manufacturing company in Thudiyalur and resides in GN Mills. He came in contact with a person named Ayyappan from Tirunelveli district through a dating platform catering to the gay community.
Ayyappan then requested Manikandan to meet him at the grounds of an educational institution near GN Mills. When Manikandan arrived at the designated location around 7.30 p.m. on June 17, Ayyappan and the minor boy threatened him with a broken beer bottle and proceeded to rob him of his motorcycle, mobile phone, and a sum of ₹5,300.
Delayed reporting and subsequent actions
Despite the ordeal, Manikandan did not immediately report the incident. However, the culprits continued to demand money from him, prompting him to seek assistance from the Thudiyalur police on Saturday. Following his complaint, the authorities launched an investigation, leading to the arrest of the minor boy on the same day.
The stolen motorcycle was recovered from the teenager, who was later presented before the Juvenile Justice Board. Meanwhile, a police team is actively searching for Ayyappan, the accomplice who remains at large.
