Accident – Death – Obituary News : A tragic incident occurred on the Pune-Nashik highway on Saturday night, resulting in the death of a 19-year-old youth in a hit-and-run accident. The victim, identified as Om Suni Bhalerao from Kalamb in the Ambegaon taluka of Pune district, was riding his bike when he was struck by an SUV driving on the wrong side of the road. The driver of the SUV, identified as Mayur Mohite, fled the scene after the collision.
Mayur Mohite, who is in his 30s and hails from Shel Pimpalgaon in the Khed taluka of Pune district, is the nephew of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Dilip Mohite Patil. According to police reports, Mayur was speeding in his Toyota Fortuner when he crashed into Bhalerao’s bike near Eklahare village around 9.25 pm. Bhalerao sustained severe injuries and tragically succumbed to them at the scene. The driver abandoned the victim without providing any assistance and later attempted to evade authorities.
An officer from the Manchar police station stated, “The investigation indicates that the accused was recklessly driving on the wrong side of the highway at a high rate of speed, leading to the collision with the bike. Bhalerao’s injuries were fatal, and the driver callously left the scene without offering aid. Mayur Mohite was apprehended by law enforcement shortly after the incident.”
In response to the incident, Dilip Mohite Patil addressed the media, asserting that his nephew had taken Bhalerao to the hospital by ambulance and subsequently surrendered himself to the police. “My nephew contacted me following the accident, and I instructed him to report to the nearest police station to prevent any escalation of the situation. He followed my advice and has cooperated with authorities. I trust in the police’s investigation process and emphasize that Mayur was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident,” Mohite Patil clarified.
