In a series of heartbreaking events, three children and a housewife have lost their lives due to drowning in separate incidents in Netrokona. The incidents took place in the Purbadhala and Durgapur Upazilas, as reported by local authorities.
The victims have been identified as 8-year-old Md Noman Mia, 7-year-old Md Taskin Mia, 21-year-old Salma Akhtar, and a third child known only by the name Jahangir.
The Tragic Events
According to Rashedul Islam, the chief of Purbadhala Police Station, Taskin and Noman went missing after visiting their grandfather’s house in Panchmargenda village on Saturday. Concerned family members launched a search when the boys did not return home. Tragically, their lifeless bodies were discovered by locals in the Deiraganga tributary of the Kangsha River near the house the following day.
Uttam Chandra Deb, the chief of Durgapur Police, revealed that Salma met with a tragic fate when she accidentally fell into a pond in front of her house while washing her face and hands. Despite frantic efforts to save her, Salma succumbed to the water’s depths, with her death confirmed by medical professionals at the Durgapur Upazila Health Complex.
Jahangir’s untimely demise occurred while he was bathing in the Someshwari River during a visit to his grandfather’s residence in the Teri Bazar area of Durgapur Municipal Town. Despite valiant rescue attempts by family members, Jahangir could not be revived, and he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Upazila health complex.

The tragic loss of these young lives and the housewife has left the local community in deep mourning. Authorities are reminding residents to exercise caution around bodies of water and to ensure the safety of children and vulnerable individuals, especially during the monsoon season when water levels can rise rapidly.
