Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Police authorities in Port Orange, Florida, have successfully apprehended a Texas fugitive following a dramatic motorcycle chase that unfolded during a routine traffic stop last week.

The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Mason Day, now faces a string of charges including fleeing or eluding law enforcement at high speed, resisting an officer without violence, and being a fugitive from justice, as per official records.

According to Day’s arrest affidavit, the incident began when an officer was alerted by Volusia County Central Dispatch in the early hours of Wednesday, June 19, about a male and female duo driving recklessly on a motorcycle headed southbound on Ridgewood Avenue from South Daytona. The officer quickly caught up with the motorcycle and activated their red and blue lights in an attempt to pull the vehicle over. However, instead of stopping, the motorcycle, driven by Day, accelerated away without warning, investigators revealed.

Despite turning off their emergency lights and reducing their speed, the officer continued to follow the motorcycle along Ridgewood Avenue until reaching the southern city limits. Reports came in that Day had made a U-turn and was now heading back north. The officer decided to pursue without lights or sirens, eventually trailing Day to a mobile home park in the 6000 block of Ridgewood Avenue where he finally came to a stop.

As Day dismounted from the motorcycle, the officer instructed him to approach. However, Day made a run for it, darting behind a trailer and circling back around. A scuffle ensued as the officer attempted to subdue Day, deploying a Taser without success before finally managing to wrestle him to the ground.

With the assistance of a Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputy, the officer managed to handcuff Day, who had initially provided law enforcement with a false name during his arrest. Subsequent investigations revealed that Day was a resident of Comanche, Texas, with an active arrest warrant in that state for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Day claimed to have sustained a broken ankle during the scuffle. He was subsequently transported to a local hospital where medical assessments confirmed a broken leg. Following treatment and clearance by medical staff, Day was taken into custody.

Footage from a body-worn camera captured Day’s arrest, during which he can be heard boasting to the officers, “I’m from Texas dude, I played football, that was a good tackle.”

Currently, Day is being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail without bond pending resolution of the fugitive from justice charge.
