Elizabeth Wolf, aged 42, faces charges of attempted capital murder and injury to a child, as reported by the Euless Police Department on May 19.
The incident unfolded at an apartment complex pool, where Wolf reportedly approached a Muslim woman wearing a hijab, identified as Mrs. H, and unleashed a barrage of racist remarks. Officials stated that Wolf proceeded to inquire about Mrs. H’s background and questioned whether the two children present were her own.
After a brief exchange, Wolf purportedly entered the pool and attempted to pull Mrs. H’s six-year-old son and three-year-old daughter towards the deeper end. In a harrowing turn of events, Wolf allegedly submerged the young girl underwater, prompting the mother to intervene and rescue her child.
Fortunately, a bystander, described as an African American man, stepped in to assist in rescuing the distressed child from Wolf’s grasp. The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) later confirmed that both children are physically unharmed but deeply traumatized by the ordeal.
As Wolf was being apprehended by law enforcement, she reportedly threatened Mrs. H and her family, shouting menacing remarks in the presence of witnesses. Mrs. H recounted to CAIR that Wolf had forcibly removed her hijab and subjected her to physical assault, preventing her from reaching her daughter as the assailant attempted to drown her.
In a poignant statement to the media, Mrs. H expressed her profound distress, stating, “We are American citizens, originally from Palestine, and I don’t know where to go to feel safe with my kids. My country is facing a war, and we are facing that hate here.”
Following her arrest, Wolf posted bail and was released from Tarrant County Jail. Captain Brenda Alvarado of the Euless Police Department disclosed that the bond for the attempted capital murder charge amounted to $25,000, while the bond for the injury to a child charge was set at $15,000.
In response to the traumatic incident, a GoFundMe campaign was initiated to support the affected family, surpassing its initial fundraising goal of $10,000 by nearly $5,000. The community’s generosity and solidarity have provided a glimmer of hope amidst the darkness of this hate-fueled attack.
