Emergency services were called to the scene of a tragic motorcycle crash at the intersection of Hiline Road and Chuckanut Drive (SR11) in Bellingham, Washington on Saturday, June 22nd. The incident occurred around 11:50am and involved a 2005 Honda GL 1800 Gold Wing motorcycle.
According to a statement from the Washington State Patrol, the motorcycle was travelling southbound towards the intersection when the driver, a 71-year-old man from Ferndale, experienced a sudden medical emergency. As a result, the motorcycle veered across the northbound lane and into a ditch. There were no other vehicles involved in the incident.
Despite wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, the motorcyclist sustained severe injuries. Emergency responders swiftly transported him to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center for treatment. Tragically, the man was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
At present, it remains unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the medical episode that led to the fatal crash.
