Texas woman arrested, accused of attempting to drown 3-year-old Palestinian Muslim child in possible hate crime.
Accident – Death – Obituary News :
A woman in Texas has been arrested after allegedly attempting to drown a 3-year-old Palestinian Muslim child in an apartment complex pool. The incident occurred last month in Euless, Texas, when the woman, identified as Elizabeth Wolf, questioned the child’s mother about their country of origin.
Disturbance at Apartment Complex Pool
Police responded to a disturbance at the apartment complex pool in Euless on May 19. Witnesses reported that a heavily intoxicated woman, later identified as Elizabeth Wolf, had tried to drown a child and engaged in an argument with the child’s mother. The mother, who appeared to be Muslim as she was wearing a hijab and modest swimwear, was questioned by Wolf about her nationality, leading to racial statements being made.
According to the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), Wolf also inquired about the children in the pool, specifically asking if two of them belonged to the mother. She then allegedly attempted to grab a 6-year-old boy before turning her attention to the 3-year-old daughter.
Attempted Drowning and Hate Crime Allegations
Wolf reportedly grabbed the 3-year-old girl and forced her underwater, prompting the mother to intervene. The child was rescued from the water, but not before experiencing distress. The incident further escalated when Wolf allegedly removed the mother’s headscarf and used it to beat her.
Both children involved in the incident were medically cleared at the scene. Wolf was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication as she attempted to leave the scene. She now faces charges of attempted capital murder and injury to a child.
CAIR has called for a hate crime investigation into the incident, with the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office currently looking into the matter. The mother, identified as “Mrs. H.,” expressed fear for her safety and her children’s well-being following the traumatic event.
Rising Incidents of Discrimination
CAIR reported a significant increase in complaints of discrimination and hate incidents against Muslims in the past year. The organisation received over 8,000 complaints nationally, marking a record high in its 30-year history. State Rep. Salman Bhojani condemned the incident, stating that hate has no place in their community.
The case is ongoing, and it remains unclear if Wolf has legal representation. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the matter to determine the appropriate course of action.
