Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A woman in Texas is facing charges of attempted capital murder and injury to a child after allegedly trying to drown a three-year-old child at an apartment complex pool. The incident also involved the woman making racial statements, according to police reports.

The Texas chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations has identified the family involved as Muslim and Palestinian. The organisation has called on state and federal law enforcement authorities to investigate the incident as a hate crime, urging them to take necessary precautions to ensure the safety of the Muslim family and community.

Disturbance at Apartment Pool Leads to Arrest

On May 19, officers from the Euless Police Department responded to a disturbance at an apartment complex pool where witnesses reported a woman who appeared to be intoxicated had attempted to drown a child and engaged in an argument with the child’s mother.

The woman, identified as Elizabeth Wolf, 42, was apprehended by officers as she attempted to leave the scene. She was subsequently arrested for public intoxication.

Racial Statements and Disturbing Actions

According to reports, the victim’s mother was wearing a hijab and modest swimwear at the pool. Wolf allegedly questioned the mother about her background and made derogatory racial statements. She also attempted to grab the mother’s six-year-old son before forcibly submerging the three-year-old daughter underwater.

The mother managed to rescue her daughter from the water, but the child was left traumatised by the incident. Both children received medical attention from Euless Medics following the ordeal.

Calls for Justice and Safety

The family affected by the incident expressed their fear and concern, stating that they do not feel safe in their own country. The mother recounted how her daughter now hides in fear whenever the apartment door is opened, afraid that the assailant may return.

The Euless Police Department confirmed that Wolf has posted bail from Tarrant County Jail. The charges against her include attempted capital murder with a bond of US$25,000 and injury to a child with a bond of US$15,000.

Community Response and Advocacy

Community leaders and politicians have condemned the incident, with Texas Rep. Salman Bhojani expressing shock and disgust at the alleged racist and Islamophobic nature of the attack. Calls have been made for a hate-crime investigation, higher bail bonds, and increased dialogue to address growing Islamophobia and anti-Arab sentiments.

As the investigation continues, the affected family and community are seeking justice and assurance of their safety in the face of such hateful acts.
