The Texas chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations has identified the family involved as Muslim and Palestinian. The organisation has urged state and federal law enforcement authorities to investigate the incident as a hate crime and ensure the safety of the Muslim family and community.
The incident took place on May 19 at an apartment complex pool in Euless, Texas. Police responded to a disturbance between two women, with witnesses reporting that a woman, later identified as Elizabeth Wolf, had attempted to drown a child and engaged in a verbal altercation with the child’s mother. Wolf, who was described as being intoxicated, was arrested for public intoxication at the scene.
Racially Motivated Attack
According to reports, Wolf questioned the victim’s mother about her background and made derogatory remarks about her ethnicity and nationality. The victim’s mother, who was visibly Muslim and wearing a hijab, was subjected to racial abuse by Wolf, who also targeted the children present at the pool.
Wolf allegedly tried to grab the victim’s 6-year-old son, causing a minor injury, before forcefully submerging the 3-year-old daughter underwater. The victim’s mother intervened and rescued her daughter from the pool, but the child was left traumatised by the incident.
Community Response
The victim’s mother, identified as Mrs. H, expressed her fear and concern following the attack. She stated, “We are American citizens, originally from Palestine, and I don’t know where to go to feel safe with my kids. My daughter is traumatised; whenever I open the apartment door, she runs away and hides, telling me she is afraid the lady will come and immerse her head in the water again.”
Texas Representative Salman Bhojani condemned the incident, stating, “Hate has no place in Euless, District 92, or anywhere in our great state.” He commended the Euless Police Department for their swift response and pledged support to the affected family.
Legal Proceedings
Elizabeth Wolf has posted bail following her arrest and is facing charges of attempted capital murder and injury to a child. The Euless Police Department has confirmed the bail amounts for the charges, but it remains unclear whether Wolf has legal representation.
