HARRISON COUNTY, Iowa — In a bizarre turn of events, a man from western Iowa allegedly caused significant damage to Pisgah City Hall after stealing a tractor and going on a destructive rampage. Authorities have identified the suspect as Craig Arnold Hardy, a 59-year-old resident of Moorhead.
According to a news release from the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office, Hardy was apprehended on June 21 and now faces multiple charges, including first-degree criminal mischief, second-degree theft, assault on law enforcement, and driving with a barred license.
The incident unfolded in the early hours of the morning when witnesses reported seeing Hardy operating a farm tractor within the city limits of Pisgah. Eyewitnesses described how he deliberately crashed into vehicles, damaged playground equipment, and ultimately rammed the tractor into the closed garage doors of City Hall.
A quick-thinking resident managed to remove the key from the tractor, bringing Hardy’s destructive spree to an end. The suspect then fled the scene on foot but was later apprehended by law enforcement officers.
Further investigation revealed that Hardy had stolen the tractor from a farm located just outside Magnolia, a town approximately 12 miles south of Pisgah. The estimated cost of the damage caused by Hardy’s actions is believed to be around $10,000.
Hardy was taken into custody and transported to the Harrison County Jail following his arrest. The sheriff’s office commended the swift actions of the resident who intervened and prevented further destruction.
The motive behind Hardy’s destructive behavior remains unclear, and authorities are continuing to investigate the incident. City officials are working to repair the damage caused to City Hall, ensuring that normal operations can resume as soon as possible.
