Accident – Death – Obituary News : The tragic shooting incident that occurred at a grocery store in Arkansas on Friday has left the community in shock. Arkansas State Police Col. Mike Hagar described the incident as “a completely random, senseless act” during a press conference on Sunday.

According to Hagar, the attack took place at the Mad Butcher grocery store in Fordyce, resulting in the death of four individuals and injuries to 10 others. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, as investigators have found no connection between the suspect, identified as 44-year-old Travis Eugene Posey, and any of the victims or the store.

The four individuals who lost their lives in the tragic incident have been identified as 23-year-old Callie Weems, 50-year-old Roy Sturgis, 62-year-old Shirley Taylor, and 81-year-old Ellen Shrum. Posey, the suspect, was shot by officers at the scene and received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

Hagar revealed that Posey is believed to have started firing indiscriminately in the parking lot upon exiting his vehicle before entering the store to continue his rampage. The suspect had a very limited criminal history, if any, prior to this incident.

As a result of his actions, Posey faces three capital murder charges and is currently being held at the Ouachita County Detention Center. Hagar mentioned that the suspect could potentially face the death penalty for his crimes.

One of the victims, Callie Weems, who worked as a nurse, tragically lost her life while trying to help another victim during the chaos. Hagar commended her selfless actions, stating, “During the incident, we observed the very best and the very worst of humanity.”

The swift response of the police officers who neutralized the suspect within five minutes of the shooting beginning was also praised by Hagar. He described their actions as heroic, as they put themselves between the suspect and the defenseless citizens to ensure their safety.

The community is mourning the loss of the victims and coming to terms with the senseless violence that has shattered their sense of security. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of those affected by this tragedy..
