Accident – Death – Obituary News : A tragic incident unfolded in Vaughan, Ont., on Friday, resulting in the deaths of a woman and a toddler, with one person arrested in connection with the shooting. According to York Regional Police, the second of four individuals injured in the shooting on Case Nova Drive passed away on Saturday morning.
The harrowing event took place at a residence on Casa Nova Drive, west of Weston and Davos roads, where officers responded to reports of gunshots just before 9 a.m. Upon arrival, authorities discovered four victims inside the home, two of whom had sustained life-threatening injuries, as stated by York Regional Police Const. Lisa Moskaluk.
Tragically, one victim succumbed to their injuries at the scene, while the remaining three were rushed to hospital for treatment. Regrettably, a second victim later succumbed to their injuries, bringing the death toll to two. The deceased have been identified as 40-year-old Thi Trang DO and 2-year-old Marcus VU, both residents of Vaughan. The two other victims are currently in stable condition.
Van Viet Duong, a 41-year-old individual from Toronto, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder in connection with the incident. Police have indicated that the accused is believed to have been acquainted with the victims, suggesting that the shooting was targeted and not a random act of violence.
Const. Moskaluk emphasised that the incident appears to be isolated, with no immediate threat to public safety. Investigators will delve into the history of the home and neighbourhood to ascertain any possible motives for the attack. They are urging anyone who may have information about the incident or was present in the vicinity during the shooting to come forward and assist with the investigation.
