Accident – Death – Obituary News : A day following the circulation of a viral video capturing the shocking incident of two schoolgirls falling out of a moving van, the Makarpura police station in Vadodara city took swift action by apprehending two individuals. The arrested persons include the owner of the van and the driver, who have been charged with rash and negligent driving, as well as endangering the lives of individuals.
The distressing event unfolded at noon on Wednesday when the driver of the school van was in the process of dropping off students from a private school in the Makarpura area. The FIR lodged by police sub-inspector R J Kalsava from the Vadodara city traffic department at Makarpura police station reveals that the incident was captured on CCTV footage from Tulsidham society on Novino Road.
The driver involved in the incident has been identified as Pratik Padhiyar, while the owner of the van is known as Jigneshkumar Joshi. The video footage shows two schoolgirls tumbling out of the moving van along with their school bags, prompting nearby residents to rush to their aid. One of the students appeared to be in distress, requiring immediate attention.
Following the incident, the driver confessed that he had forgotten to lock the rear passenger door of the school van, a Maruti Eeco model. As a result, two students accidentally fell out of the moving vehicle. Despite sustaining minor injuries, the mother of one of the eight-year-old girls opted not to report the incident to the police.
Further investigation revealed that the driver, aged 23, was operating the van on a learners’ license without a permanent license. Additionally, the owner of the van had failed to obtain an RTO permit to transport school students, as required by law.
Both the driver and the owner have been charged under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 336, 337, and 114, along with relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act. These sections pertain to acting rashly or negligently to endanger human life, causing harm to others due to negligence, and abetting a crime in the presence of the perpetrator.
The swift actions taken by the authorities in response to this alarming incident serve as a reminder of the importance of adhering to safety regulations and exercising caution while transporting passengers, especially school children.
