BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Paul Bittner, a 42-year-old man from Bellingham, has entered a plea of not guilty in court after being accused of committing a racially motivated assault against a child in the city.

Allegations of Assault

According to court documents presented in Whatcom County Superior Court, Bittner, a white male, allegedly punched an 11-year-old Black student in the face. The incident occurred while the student was on a field trip with Whatcom Middle School. Following the initial punch, Bittner reportedly pushed the student and made a racially charged comment.

As a result of the attack, the young boy sustained a fractured tooth on his lower jaw and an injury to his nose. The assault took place in close proximity to the Bellingham Police Department, adding to the shock and gravity of the situation.

Legal Charges

Bittner faces serious charges in connection with the incident. He has been charged with commission of a hate crime, classified as a class-C Felony, as well as 2nd-degree assault with substantial bodily harm, categorised as a class-B Felony. His status hearing is set for July 17, and he is currently being held at the Whatcom County Jail on a bail amount of $500,000.
