A disturbing video showing a woman being brutally beaten by a group of men in the tribal-dominated Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh has surfaced on social media, sparking outrage and concerns over women’s safety in the state.

The video, which went viral, depicts a harrowing scene where a group of four men are seen holding down a woman in a saree while another man viciously strikes her with a wooden stick. Onlookers can be seen in the background, adding to the distressing nature of the incident.

According to police sources, the incident took place on June 20 after the woman reportedly eloped with a man, leading to the violent retaliation captured in the video.

Main accused apprehended by police

Following the circulation of the video, law enforcement authorities swiftly took action, identifying the location of the incident within the Tanda police station jurisdiction in Dhar district. Political backlash and demands for justice

The opposition Congress party wasted no time in criticising the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Madhya Pradesh, condemning the incident as a stark reminder of the failures in ensuring women’s safety in the state.
