A family in Maryland is in shock after DNA evidence has linked a woman’s ex-boyfriend to her mother’s murder, which took place over two decades ago.

Lauren Preer, the daughter of the victim Leslie Preer, spoke to FOX 5 about the shocking revelation. She revealed that Eugene Gligor, now 44, who was her ex-boyfriend, has been charged with her mother’s murder.

According to reports, Leslie Preer was found dead in her home in Chevy Chase, Montgomery County, in 2001 after failing to show up for work. The case went cold until recent developments.

Forensic Breakthrough

The Montgomery County Department of Police’s Cold Case Section submitted blood evidence from the crime scene for genetic genealogical DNA analysis. The analysis led to the identification of Gligor as a match, thanks to forensic genealogy techniques.

Assistant Chief Nicholas Augustine from the Montgomery County Police Department explained to FOX 5 that they are committed to solving cold cases, no matter how many years have passed since the crime occurred.

Gligor was apprehended by the US Marshal’s Task Force in Washington, D.C., on June 18 and now faces charges of first-degree murder in connection with Leslie Preer’s death.

A Shocking Revelation

Speaking to FOX 5, Lauren Preer expressed her disbelief at the news, stating that she had never suspected Gligor of being involved in her mother’s murder. She even mentioned that she had interacted with him recently and found his behaviour to be normal.

Gligor is currently awaiting extradition from Washington, D.C., to Maryland to face trial for the murder. The police have not disclosed any motive for the crime at this stage.
