FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — A man who stole a Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) cruiser and led officers on a chase in Fair Oaks on Friday morning was arrested, officials said Saturday.

Stolen Car Incident

FCPD received a report on Friday at approximately 11:35 a.m. about a stolen car near the Fair Oaks Mall.

Upon arriving at the scene, an officer discovered the stolen car parked at the mall with three individuals inside. The driver attempted to leave the scene when the officer approached.

The driver was later identified as 46-year-old Kenton Smith, who had no fixed address.

Police Pursuit

During the encounter, one of the passengers, identified as 30-year-old Eric Gutierrez from Ashland, exited the car and proceeded to steal the officer’s unmarked police cruiser.

Police initiated a brief pursuit of Gutierrez after he failed to comply with their instructions.

Gutierrez collided with two police cruisers before being apprehended. He and two officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash.

The other passenger, 28-year-old Natrua Mayfield-Jackson from Maryland, and Smith were apprehended at the mall.

Legal Consequences

Gutierrez was taken into custody and charged with two counts of Grand Larceny – Auto Theft, Grand Larceny, and Felony Speed to Elude. He is currently held without bond at the Adult Detention Center.

Mayfield-Jackson was also detained and served with two outstanding warrants. She is being held without bond at the Adult Detention Center.

Smith faces charges of Unauthorized Use and Grand Larceny and is being held on a $4,000 secured bond.
