RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) – Additional information has emerged regarding a prolonged standoff at an apartment complex in Raleigh, culminating in a deputy shooting a man. The incident transpired on Tuesday at the Oaks Apartments situated on Water Oaks Drive near Louisburg Road.

According to the Wake County Sheriff’s Office, law enforcement officials were executing an eviction order at the premises when the tenant, identified as 52-year-old Jason Thomas Lundwall, adamantly refused to vacate the property.

Residents in the northeast Raleigh community were subjected to a tense situation as nearby apartments were evacuated as a precautionary measure. Subsequently, officers cordoned off the apartment complex and engaged in a approximately seven-hour-long effort to coax the individual out of the residence.

At approximately 5:30 p.m., deputies entered the apartment to enforce the eviction order and remove Lundwall. During the eviction attempt, Deputy Michael Reitmann discharged his firearm, resulting in Lundwall sustaining gunshot wounds. The injured individual was promptly transported to WakeMed with severe injuries.
