Man accused of child rape awaiting trial found in car with teenage girl

In a shocking turn of events, 22-year-old Everildo Mendoza-Ailon, a Lynden man awaiting trial for 6 counts of child rape, was discovered in the backseat of a car with a 14-year-old girl in Ferndale. The incident took place around 1:20am on June 10th, when a Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office deputy approached a vehicle parked at a sports complex on W Smith Road.
Upon inspection, the deputy found Mendoza-Ailon and the young girl in the backseat. Initially claiming they were only engaged in “making out,” it was later revealed that they had actually engaged in intercourse. The girl informed deputies that Mendoza-Ailon was aware of her age, but had misled her by claiming to be 17 years old.
It is worth noting that Mendoza-Ailon was already facing 6 charges of child rape based on allegations from other 14-year-old girls. In those cases, he had falsely represented himself as a 16-year-old, when he was actually 19 at the time. Despite posting $1,500 cash bail and being released from custody three days after his initial arrest in February 2023, Mendoza-Ailon now faces an additional charge of child rape. Bail for this new charge was set at $150,000 during a preliminary appearance hearing on June 17th.
As of June 22nd, Mendoza-Ailon remains in custody at the Whatcom County Jail Work Center, awaiting trial for both sets of charges.
