A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Macon, as a 19-year-old lost his life in a drowning accident in the Ocmulgee River. This marks the second drowning tragedy to occur in Macon on Friday, as reported by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

The unfortunate incident took place at Frank Amerson Park, with the Macon-Bibb Fire Department receiving a distress call just after 6 p.m. Witnesses at the scene reported that they saw their friend struggling in the water and attempted to assist him. Despite their efforts, the young man went under the water a second time, prompting a frantic search to locate him.

Upon arrival, the fire department discovered the lifeless body of the victim, who has been identified as Eddren Chester from Macon. The sheriff’s office has informed the family of Chester’s tragic passing.

Earlier in the day, another drowning occurred in the Ocmulgee River when 33-year-old Billy Scott Carter lost his life while trying to rescue children in distress in the water.

This series of unfortunate events serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by bodies of water, especially during the summer months when many people seek relief from the heat. It is crucial for individuals to exercise caution and adhere to safety guidelines when engaging in water-related activities.
