Accident – Death – Obituary News :

LACONIA, Ind. (WAVE) – A tragic incident unfolded in rural Harrison County on Friday evening, resulting in two fatalities and one individual being hospitalized following a shooting.

Indiana State Police responded to a distress call around 6 p.m. in the 3000 block of Mosquito Creek Road near Laconia. Upon arrival, authorities discovered a man in his 50s who had sustained a gunshot wound to the arm. He was promptly transported to UofL Hospital for treatment and is currently in stable condition.

Following the initial response, Harrison County police attempted to make contact with occupants inside the residence where the shooting occurred. After receiving no response, law enforcement officials conducted a thorough search of the property and tragically discovered the lifeless bodies of a man and a woman lying outside the back door. The deceased individuals were identified as Donald Ray Weaver, 84, and Virginia Y. Scofield, 82, who were the parents of the injured man.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Weaver and his son had engaged in a heated argument earlier in the evening, leading to the son being shot in the arm by Weaver. Subsequently, the injured son sought refuge at a neighbour’s property to alert emergency services, but further gunshots were heard shortly after.

Law enforcement authorities believe that Weaver fatally shot Scofield before taking his own life. The Indiana State Police have taken over the investigation, and autopsies are scheduled for Monday to shed more light on the tragic sequence of events.
