Kings Island guests can once again enjoy the thrill of riding the Banshee roller coaster after a recent incident prompted the park to temporarily close the ride. The roller coaster was closed following an incident on Wednesday night, where a guest was critically injured.
The Banshee has now been reopened after passing inspection by the Ohio Department of Agriculture’s Division of Amusement Ride Safety and Fairs on Saturday morning. Chad Showalter, the director of communications for Kings Island, confirmed the ride’s reopening.
The incident involved a 38-year-old man, Arntanaro Nelson from Wilmington, who was possibly hit by the roller coaster after entering a restricted area near the ride. According to amusement park officials, Nelson entered the restricted area to retrieve his keys, resulting in serious injuries. He was quickly transported to West Chester Hospital and then to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center via a medical helicopter.
The Banshee had remained closed since the incident on Wednesday to allow for thorough investigations to take place. However, after passing inspection and ensuring the safety of the ride, Kings Island has reopened the popular roller coaster to the public.
