A burglary suspect led police on a high-speed chase that came to a dramatic conclusion in Rowlett on Friday afternoon, according to authorities.
Details of the Incident
Rowlett PD officers were called to assist Kaufman County Constables at 1:15 p.m. in response to a burglary of habitation in progress and a vehicle pursuit that ended at the 8400 block of Sunset Blvd. The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Andrew Blessed from Kaufman County, Texas, fled the scene and engaged officers in a pursuit that ultimately ended at an apartment complex near Sunset Blvd.
During the chase, Blessed drove a presumed stolen rental truck into the entry of the apartment complex parking garage. He then exited the vehicle and fled to his girlfriend’s apartment, where he barricaded himself inside along with his girlfriend. Blessed, who is known to be dangerous and willing to resist police, threatened and unlawfully restrained his girlfriend.
Police Response
Rowlett PD established an outer perimeter to support Kaufman County Constables in handling the situation. As tensions escalated, Rockwall PD SWAT and Rowlett PD SWAT were called in for assistance. After several hours of negotiation, it was decided to breach the door. Officers successfully entered the apartment and apprehended Blessed without any further incidents. Fortunately, his girlfriend was found unharmed and without any injuries.
Following the arrest, Kaufman County Constables took custody of Blessed and transported him back to Kaufman County. Due to the damage caused during the breach of the apartment, Blessed’s girlfriend was provided with a complimentary night’s stay at a local hotel, courtesy of the Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD).
Legal Consequences
Andrew Blessed now faces a total of five felony charges, one misdemeanor, and two felony bond revocation charges as a result of his actions during the incident.
