ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) — Elmira Police have identified the victim of a homicide that occurred on Grove Street on Thursday evening. The victim has been named as 21-year-old Zachary T. VanHorn.
The incident took place inside a residence on Grove Street in Elmira on June 20. Police responded to reports of a shooting in the area at approximately 5 p.m. Officers quickly secured the scene, blocking off Grove, 2nd, and 3rd Streets to investigate the crime.
VanHorn was transported to a local hospital by ambulance, where he was tragically pronounced dead. Elmira Police have not released any further details at this time, including information about a potential suspect who was reportedly on the run following the incident.
The investigation into the homicide is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and contact the Elmira Police Department Detective Bureau.
