Accident – Death – Obituary News : An Indian worker tragically passed away in Italy on Wednesday following what has been described as callous and exploitative treatment by his employers in Latina, the second largest city in the European nation. Italy’s Labour Minister Marina Calderone condemned the incident, labelling it as barbaric.
The deceased has been identified as 31-year-old Satnam Singh, who suffered a fatal injury while operating agricultural machinery at a greenhouse on Monday. Shockingly, instead of promptly seeking medical assistance for Singh, his employers left him outside his residence in Borgo Santa Maria with his severed arm placed in a fruit crate.
Satnam had relocated to Italy with his wife just three years ago. It was his wife who alerted the authorities, leading to Singh being airlifted to San Camillo Forlanini Hospital in Rome, where he eventually succumbed to his injuries. Some reports suggest that Satnam originally hailed from Moga in Punjab.
This distressing incident occurred shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni met to discuss strengthening the bilateral relationship between India and Italy. In response to the tragedy, PM Meloni convened a Cabinet meeting, denouncing the act as inhumane and expressing hope for justice to be served.
Italian Agriculture Minister Francesco Lollobrigida reiterated the government’s stance against labour exploitation, particularly in light of this case. The farm where Satnam was employed is now under scrutiny, with owner Renzo Lovato attributing the accident to Singh’s alleged negligence. Lovato’s son is also under investigation for failing to promptly assist the injured worker and for potential safety violations.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Satnam was operating a plastic roller wrapping machine attached to a tractor when the incident occurred. The circumstances surrounding the accident and the subsequent handling of the situation are being thoroughly examined to determine accountability and ensure justice for the victim..
