Accident – Death – Obituary News : CANAJOHARIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A Fort Plain resident, Robert Shutts, aged 41, found himself in trouble with the law after allegedly deliberately causing a car crash, resulting in injuries to a passenger. The incident occurred on Old Fort Plain Road in Canajoharie, prompting a response from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

Following an investigation into the crash, authorities determined that Shutts was the driver responsible for intentionally causing the collision and inflicting harm on a passenger before fleeing the scene on foot. Law enforcement officers managed to locate and apprehend Shutts, who was subsequently handed over to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office by the Canahjoharie Police Department.

During the process of being transported for processing, Shutts reportedly exhibited further destructive behaviour by intentionally damaging a patrol car’s window and door with his actions. This led to additional charges being levied against him.

Shutts now faces a series of charges, including second-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree criminal mischief, second-degree assault, third-degree criminal mischief, second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, and open container/consumption in a motor vehicle. Following his arraignment at Canajoharie Town Court, Shutts was remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility without the option of bail.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible and lawful behaviour on the roads, as well as the legal consequences that can arise from reckless actions.
