An American influencer was in the midst of filming a makeup tutorial when she inadvertently captured the sound of gunshots that tragically ended her brother’s life. Rebecca Olugbemi, a resident of Odenton, Maryland, was recording a video when her brother, Isaiah Olugbemi, 27, was fatally shot by their neighbour, Nicholas Giroux.
The fatal incident occurred on Monday night on Meadowmist Way as Isaiah was returning home from the gym, according to the Anne Arundel County police.
Isaiah was just steps away from his residence when the assailant approached him, fired multiple shots, and quickly fled the scene, as detailed in a charging document.
The gunshots were captured in Rebecca’s video, prompting her to investigate the source of the disturbance.
Giroux was apprehended and charged with first- and second-degree murder the following day after confessing to the crime and revealing the 9 mm handgun used in the attack, authorities confirmed.
Reports indicate that the suspect had previously engaged in altercations with the Olugbemi family, prompting an ongoing investigation by the Anne Arundel County police.
“I just want people to remember my brother as a wonderful father and a remarkable individual,” stated Daniel Olugbemi, Isaiah’s sibling. “He had aspirations of becoming a top-tier boxer.”
Abraham Olugbemi, another brother of Isaiah, mentioned that acquaintances from New York had travelled to pay their respects upon learning of his tragic passing.
Reflecting on the devastating loss, Rebecca expressed uncertainty about the future and the possibility of finding closure. “I don’t know if anything could ease the pain,” she shared.
Giroux is currently being held without bail as legal proceedings continue.
