A man from North Texas is facing murder charges following the death of a coworker who overdosed on drugs that he allegedly sold to him. Pedro Martinez, 31, of Lake Dallas, has been charged with murder for selling cocaine laced with fentanyl to his coworker, according to a press release from the Denton Police Department.
Details of the Case
On January 21, authorities responded to a call about an unconscious man in the 500 block of Inman Street. The man, identified as 26-year-old Dylan King, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office later determined that King died from a combination of cocaine and fentanyl toxicity. During the investigation, it was revealed that King had obtained the drugs from Martinez, who admitted to selling the drugs containing fentanyl to King.
Legal Action
On June 18, detectives obtained a warrant for Martinez on the murder charge. He is currently held at the Denton County jail on a $250,000 bond. Martinez has a previous arrest record, including a 2022 arrest for possession of a controlled substance of penalty group one, which includes substances like cocaine, methamphetamine, and heroin.
Fentanyl-Related Deaths in Denton
This case marks the fifth fentanyl-related murder charge in Denton following a new Texas law that criminalizes supplying fentanyl resulting in death. In a separate incident in May, a 45-year-old woman was arrested for a fentanyl overdose that led to the death of a 38-year-old man. The woman, Ryan Michelle Warner, is currently held at the Denton County jail on a $500,000 bond.
