On Saturday, 78-year-old Ned Thomas Chapman of Barus Pond Loop in Valdese was arrested by Morganton Public Safety Officers. Chapman faces charges of felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance.
Details of the Arrest
The arrest took place shortly after 1 a.m. on Saturday when a Public Safety Officer conducted a traffic stop on a 2000 Jeep Cherokee on West Fleming Drive. The vehicle had stopped in the middle of the intersection for a red light. Upon making contact with the driver, identified as Chapman, the officer discovered an outstanding felony indictment and took the suspect into custody.
Release and Court Date
Following the arrest, Chapman was released on a written promise. He is scheduled to appear in Superior Court on July 15 to face the charges.
