In Miami-Dade County, two men were apprehended by police on Thursday for attempting to pawn counterfeit jewelry while using fake identification documents. The incident took place last week and involved the suspects trying to sell fake jewelry at local pawn shops.
The Miami-Dade police were alerted to the situation by an employee at the Naranja Trading Post on 732 S. Krome Ave. The employee became suspicious when one of the men, later identified as Manuel Lora, used a counterfeit Illinois driver’s license to pawn jewelry worth $2,400 on June 13. Subsequent investigation revealed that the jewelry was indeed fake.
Prior to this incident, detectives had warned pawn shops in the area about two individuals attempting to pawn counterfeit jewelry. Another incident was reported at the Naranja Trading Post North Store on 26799 S. Dixie Hwy., where Felix Corporannina, a 31-year-old man from the Bronx in New York, tried to sell fake jewelry.
The suspects were turned away by the shop, and a description of their vehicle was provided to authorities. The police later stopped the vehicle and discovered Noel Loramateo, a 37-year-old man, in possession of multiple fake driver’s licenses from different states, all with his photograph.
Loramateo was taken into custody after refusing to provide his personal information. Corporannina was also found with fraudulent driver’s licenses and was subsequently arrested. Both suspects were taken to a Miami-Dade police station for questioning.
According to jail records, Corporannina is facing charges of fraudulent use of identification and organized scheme to defraud. As of Friday afternoon, both suspects no longer appeared as inmates on the Miami-Dade Corrections’ website.
Local 10 News has requested the arrest report for Loramateo to determine the exact charges he is facing.
