Woman Arrested in Union County for $400,000 Publisher’s Clearing House Scam

A 32-year-old woman from Philadelphia, identified as Krystal McKenzie-Carter, has been arrested in Union County for allegedly orchestrating a Publisher’s Clearing House scam that defrauded a victim of $400,000 over a period of four years, according to a report by NorthcentralPA.com.

The scam came to light when a man from Union County contacted state police on August 30 last year to report that he had fallen victim to a fraudulent scheme in which he was led to believe he had won a Publisher’s Clearing House prize. The victim revealed that McKenzie-Carter had approached him in 2019, requesting $500 to cover taxes for the alleged winnings.

Subsequent to the initial contact, the victim was repeatedly solicited by McKenzie-Carter or her associates, who would fabricate excuses to extort more money from him under false pretences.

Realising that he had been duped, the victim confronted the scammer, only to be targeted by another individual claiming they could assist in recovering his lost funds. Succumbing to further manipulation, the victim ended up sending additional sums of money before authorities were able to trace the transactions back to McKenzie-Carter, leading to her arrest.
