CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — The Cranston Police Department has made public the body-worn camera footage from an officer involved in an incident with two shoplifting suspects last Sunday.

The video shows Officer Kayleigh Cooper, a three-year veteran of the force, confronting two individuals suspected of shoplifting from a lululemon store. When the suspects refused to comply and attempted to flee in their vehicle, Cooper fired her service weapon at the car, reportedly in response to the suspects running over her foot.

Following the incident, the suspects’ abandoned vehicle was discovered on Niantic Avenue the following day. The individuals, identified as 24-year-old Michael Campagna and 24-year-old Megan O’Brien, were later apprehended at JFK train station in Boston and taken into custody on Tuesday.

In addition to the shoplifting charges in Cranston, state police have announced their intention to bring several charges against Campagna and O’Brien.

Michael Campagna, hailing from South Boston, will face charges including felony assault, assault on a police officer, reckless driving, obstruction of an officer in the execution of duty, resisting arrest, and conspiracy.

Megan O’Brien, a resident of Lynn, will be charged with felony assault, assault on a police officer, conspiracy, and two counts of aiding and abetting.
