Accident – Death – Obituary News : The individual who tragically lost his life in a drowning incident in Seymour Reservoir #2 in Oxford, New Haven County on June 20, has been identified as Kai Thomas Boapeah, a native of Ghana, Africa. Boapeah, who had been residing with friends in Waterbury, was reported missing after he went underwater while swimming in the reservoir. The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s spokesman, Will Healey, confirmed that Boapeah was recovered by dive teams in an unconscious state and despite efforts to revive him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident prompted a swift response from DEEP Environmental Conservation (EnCon) Police, along with the assistance of Oxford Police, Oxford Fire, and the Region 5 Dive Team. Authorities were alerted to the situation when Boapeah failed to resurface while swimming in the reservoir, which is not designated as a swimming area.
The tragic event serves as a reminder of the importance of water safety and the potential dangers of swimming in unauthorized areas. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Kai Thomas Boapeah during this difficult time.
