Accident – Death – Obituary News :

The St. Joseph County Police Department has revealed the identity of the individual who tragically lost their life in a rollover crash that occurred west of U.S. 31 on June 20.

Law enforcement officers were summoned to the intersection of Indiana 2 and Pine Road at approximately 11:45 p.m. following reports of a verbal altercation between two drivers involved in a traffic collision.

Upon reaching the scene, authorities encountered Rene Hernandez-Ramirez, the lone driver present, who informed them that the second driver had fled towards the north on Pine Road. Simultaneously, dispatch informed the officers about a single-vehicle rollover involving a grey SUV, approximately 1.5 miles north of Indiana 2 on Pine Road, just south of Edison Road.

The driver of the overturned SUV, identified as 27-year-old Justus Taylor O’Hara from South Bend, was discovered unconscious and trapped beneath his vehicle. Despite the efforts of fire and medical personnel to save him, O’Hara was pronounced dead at the scene.

During the investigation, it was observed that Hernandez-Ramirez displayed signs of intoxication. Subsequently, a portable breathalyzer test was administered, leading to the arrest of the 33-year-old Goshen resident on suspicion of Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated, a level A misdemeanor. Hernandez-Ramirez was then taken into custody and transported to the St. Joseph County Jail.

The St. Joseph County Police Department Traffic Investigation Unit is currently conducting a thorough investigation into the incident. Initial assessments suggest that speed and intoxication may have played a role in the fatal rollover crash.

The collision resulted in damage to two wooden utility poles and AEP power lines. However, authorities have confirmed that the necessary repairs have been completed.
