HOLLAND, Mich. – Jerell Alexander Lindsey, a 27-year-old man, is facing trial for the alleged shooting and killing of Miguel Raul Zamudio, a 41-year-old man who was a complete stranger to Lindsey. The incident took place during a family gathering in Holland, Michigan.
Incident Details
The tragic event occurred on April 13 when officers responded to a call reporting a person shot in the 300 block of West 19th Street around 2:15 p.m. Upon arrival, they found Miguel Raul Zamudio in the driveway of a home with a gunshot wound to the head. Zamudio was immediately rushed to the hospital but sadly succumbed to his injuries on April 14.
Jerell Alexander Lindsey was discovered in a nearby home adjacent to where Zamudio was found. Upon being approached by the police, Lindsey claimed there were explosives in the house, leading to the evacuation of nearby homes. However, bomb technicians later confirmed that there were no explosives present in the property.
Unprovoked Attack
Investigations revealed that Zamudio had been visiting family members when Lindsey approached them. Witnesses reported seeing Lindsey holding a gun, prompting Zamudio’s family to seek refuge inside the house. Despite their attempts to flee to safety, Lindsey continued to advance and fatally shot Zamudio in the head. It was determined that the two individuals had no prior connection.
Prior to the fatal shooting, Lindsey had been involved in a domestic incident at his residence on Harrison Avenue. Reports indicated that he had threatened his girlfriend with a firearm before she managed to escape from the property.
Legal Proceedings
Jerell Alexander Lindsey was formally charged with open murder and denied bond during his arraignment on April 15. Following a preliminary hearing, he was bound over for trial. The prosecution is expected to present evidence of Lindsey’s actions leading up to the tragic death of Miguel Raul Zamudio.
